I love that stoners sit around and invent patents JUST IN CASE.
I was tapped by a professor in college to be a patent illustration consultant but declined. Sometimes I look at some of these and wonder what life might be life. Could have been fun, could still be fun. I wonder how I would have handled drawing up a bio-hazard suit with a toilet in it.

See this movie on the big screen, or you will never forgive yourself.
Take a look at the level of detail in the still above, and remind yourself that this is a Disney/Pixar movie rated G. Now look at the still below.

I really think I need to see this at least one more time on the big screen, maybe two, just to fully take it all in. Parts of this film are a bit more conventional than this, but not by much. The first half is almost entirely devoid of dialog and reminds me of Luc Besson's first feature film, Le Dernier Combat (if you haven't seen it, do so now - I will lend you my copy if need be). I honestly can't imagine what will go through the heads of children who see this film; will they see our world reflected in it, or just laugh at the cute little robots? Some of them might have to ask their parents some rather awkward questions, and I'd really love to hear some of those conversations.
People have been comparing this film to 2001: A Space Odyssey and I can certainly see why, but it really reminds me of Silent Running, that great sci-fi eco-parable from 1972, with maybe a little of The Omega Man and Logan's Run thrown in there. In short, we have not seen this sort of film-making in thirty years, and I don't think ever in a family film.
I don't even want to discuss plot or characters really, at least not yet; we can discuss that stuff once a few more of us have seen it. Just see it. That's all I'll say at this time.
10/10 Grims
