I thought these were pretty cool.
I didn't look too closely lest I be spoiled with spoilery business, but i thought some of the shots were cool. Plus, Lena Headey.

This an interesting episode: a one-hour premiere that actually felt comfortable with it's one hour status and not like a stunt. A new narrative is used: competing at the office level for a group weight loss challenge, the scenes are presented day by day with a date stamp on black screen, which gives it a nice pacing. Of course, the weight loss attempt fails in some predictable, and other less predictable, ways. We have some characters ignoring the mandate and hoovering the goods. But most take the effort seriously, not for the supposed health benefits, but for the THREE vacation days reward. My favorite was Kelly Kapoor, who tried some sort of cockamamie cleansing diet that looked like urine, involving pancake syrup, TANG powder and lemon juice. She does an interview with black-rimmed eye sockets and mentions she bought THREE bikinis, size two, online, and she'll look great... she's a zombie at this point. Soon enough, she collapses during one of the weigh-ins. We see various other side plots throughout the hour, leading up to a surprise fun surprise at the end. Overall, it was a largely static episode with some great individual moments. Not the level of outrageous hilarity we've sometimes seen, but partly this can be attributed to the length of time this show has been on... it's just run it's course in some ways, so many of the situations that were once provocative are now not shocking due to our familiarity with them.

Some other tidbits:

- I still really like Amy Ryan. I think she's hot, funny, quirky, and unusual. I don't need the 'Wicka wicka wicka what?!' moment, but otherwise, awesome.

- "I think I still haven't fully processed 9-11..." - Ryan, back as a temp

- Michael carrying e-Pam into the stockroom to find colored post-its

- Creed sold Kelly a 'tapeworm' from Mexico... which wasn't a tapeworm.

- The entire Pam moving to college for the summer is an excellent plot point. We get to explore long distance relationship strain further, and Jim will finally have real competition for Pam's affection now that she's surrounded by young, intelligent, interesting dudes... in NEW YORK. Yeah, she's real jazzed to return to Scranton NOW.

- Dwight spraying the edibles with Fixativ or something

- The music playing during the unfun party

8/10 Clicks
- "I have a nice comforter and several comfy pillows. I usually read a chapter of a book, and it's lights out by 8:30. That's how I sleep at night." - Angela, having a heartbreaking affair behind Andy's back

ok barring the fact that it's going to be shot in mo-cap (like "beowulf"), and that it'll be in 3-D (like "jaws 3"), i love tim burton's style ("planet of the apes" notwithstanding) and the following NEWS, if valid, ROCKS. because it's about the mad hatter. and it's about who's playing him. and it's this relative unknown...

CONFIRMATION apparently comes today to the rumour that they're gonna roll with an "i am legend" prequel.

now, "i am legend" had a lot of possibility, and at various points was actually quite good. i thoroughly enjoyed watching the life that neville had built for himself -- how his days were constructed, how his living space was organized, what his little process was, etc.. that was all very cool. i even liked the idea of a virus wiping out all but a few humans. and the scene with his dog (you know what i mean if you saw it) was actually one of the most heart-wrenching and deeply disturbing scenes i've ever witnessed in a movie. so yeah, it coulda been good. unfortunately, it sucked 13 different kinds of ass.

i also like the idea of prequels. they're sort of a new phenomenon of the past 20 years or so, and they're a very cool way of telling a new point of the story. also, they're usually epic fails. (see "star wars" for evidence of this.)

additionally, there were enough flashbacks and dream sequences in IaL to TELL the prequel. so like, i've already seen it, right?

so i dunno. it feels like a mixed bag. i'd like to see something better than IaL, so maybe it's the right thing. we shall see, apparently.

I'm not one for games, much, on portable devices, having little time nor inclination. And I'm especially not one to buy one without testing it.

But I saw screencaps for Billy Frontier, and was sold instantly.
If you view this random image above, you will note it appears to be cows and coin falling from the sky being shot at, with hooch in your hand. SOLD.

It's a cowboy space western, like my old favorite: Redneck Rampage! SOLD

Also, lots of threes evident in the screencaps, through the link below.
At some point, perhaps on the plane tomorrow, I'll actually try it!
