burrito project
30/04/10

i didn't post this in the team lope section because i believe it has interest far beyond the cycling aspect. THE BURRITO PROJECT is a group of college kids who make up a whole mess of burritos on saturdays and then hand em out to bums in downtown santa ana the next day.
despite my own personal feelings about homelessness*, i understand that people get down on their luck and often just need some time and a helping hand to get back on their feet. and within that, i think what these kids are doing is pretty cool. i'm also a sucker for self-actualized community service and positive outreach.
*unfortunately, i have a very unhealthy attitude about homelessness, because i live in a city where it's encouraged. the programs in san francisco actually SUPPORT homelessness, and thus there exists no drive for people who may have started out down on their luck to ever have to re-enter the world. it's EASY to be a bum here, and as a result of the MASSIVE homeless population that begets, i've become not only desensitized, but actually intolerant.

I'm impressed!
It helps that the design work on the Thor series the last year or so has been really solid. This costume design was the first I actually LIKED in the history of the character...

As for the Destroyer, that's an oldie but goodie, which I've used to smash puny players in old Marvel RPG games for decades...

I have yet to see something that DID NOT kick ass in this film. Trejo, of course, is impossible to convey in a not kicking ass manner reGARTless...

Capes in Stone

This Italian sculptor has carved a series of generally mystifying pieces, intended I'm sure to convey an artful message that I don't necessarily parse. But I loved this one up top.

This may seem out of nowhere to most here, but it's a standard piece of mandatory fiction for the youth: Red Dawn for Australians. Could be worse!
